ABSTRACT In a metal burner for gas appliances, this invention can create detailed flame patterns with a minimum of hole punching. The burner can vary the flame height, width and location of the flames by varying the size of only a few slots. In this invention, a piece of sheet metal with a series of slots that may be inches in length and may vary in size is used as an overlay and attached to a piece of perforated sheet metal stock with a plurality of small uniformly spaced holes. As few as ten of these slots may contain in excess of 1,000 gas outlet ports. This lamination of metal forms part of the body of the burner which is an enclosed chamber. For additional flame control, gas is directed into the burner through a round metal tube which terminates directly in front of a contoured dispersement fitting of approximately the same diameter of the tube. The orientation of this tube and dispersement fitting affects the dispersement of the gas inside the burner resulting in changes in flame height.
