ABSTRACT A burst signal detection apparatus has a unique word detector for receiving a burst signal comprising data which has undergone CRC (cyclic Redundance Check) coding and error-correction coding and a unique word that precedes the data, and for detecting the unique word out of the burst signal received. An error- correcting decoder decodes an error-correction code with regard to the data. A CRC error detector receives decoded data output by said error-correcting decoder to detect a CRC error. A channel quality detector is provided for detecting channel quality based on an input/output condition or a decoding condition of the error- correcting decoder. An output circuit is provided for outputting a detection signal in response to outputs of the unique word detector, CRC error detector, and channel quality detector. The invention reduces the probability of reception of erroneous data.
