AN IMPROVED BUSHING WITH SELF-TAPPING THREADS Abstract of the Disclosure An improved bushing engageable in the cylindrical bore of a housing and having a smooth axially aligned internal bore to which a rotatable shaft is journaled. The improved bushing contains a stepped outer circumferential surface having a smooth circular lead surface and a larger diameter, self-tapping threaded surface. The lead surface is used to align the bushing in the cylindrical bore and is approximately of the same diameter as the cylindrical bore. The self-tapping threaded surface permits the bushing to positively engage the housing and thereby axially align the shaft which is journaled to it. The improved bushing also includes a tool receiving end formed adjacent to the self-tapping threaded surface which accepts a tool to enable the bushing to be screwed into the housing.
