K 2147 A B S T R A C T A process for the recovery of butadiene from a mixture thereof with other C4-hydrocarbons and in addition with minor amounts of saturated and unsaturated C5-hydrocarbons, in which the mixture is subjected to extractive distillation in the presence of a polar solvent, a fat solvent recovered from the extractive distillation zone is introduced, optionally after partial depletion, into a first stripping zone operated at a lower pressure than the ex- tractive distillation zone, a butadiene-enriched vapour stream is recovered from said stripping zone, a portion of said vapour stream after compression is returned to the extractive distillation zone, another portion of said vapour stream after compression is introduced into a second stripping zone, butadiene is recovered from the said second stripping zone, a portion of the butadiene- enriched vapour stream from the first stripping zone, containing a relatively high concentration of saturated and unsaturated C5- hydrocarbons, is condensed to a liquid stream, the liquid stream is washed to remove polar solvent therefrom and the resulting washed condensed liquid product is substantially passed to a fractionation zone, whereby saturated and unsaturated C5-hydro- carbons are substantially removed from the process.
