ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In this butterfly-valve, at each point of the mean line of the seat the plane tangent to the seat makes an acute angle which is at least rougly constant with the tangent to the path of the corresponding point of the butterfly member at the point of contact of the seal element with the seat. Thus, throughout its periphery, and even in the region of the axis of rotation of the butterfly member, the seal element is subjected to pure compression with no sliding or friction relative to the seat. Consequently, the wear of the seal element and the torque for operating the butterfly member are very small. Application in controlled valves and check-valves
