ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a butterfly valve having an improved closure plate. The valve comprises a seat perpendicu- lar to the axis of the valve and an axially displaced butter- fly gate, optionally off-center in relation to its drive axis. The bearing surface of the butterfly has a shape such that its normals in the regions situated on both sides of the plane of symmetry of the butterfly gate, passing through its axis of rotation, cut across the axis of symmetry of the seat at two distinct points, C1 and C2.
