An ear tag for livestock identification, particularly suited for cattle. The tag, made of a resilient material, is mounted on the animal's ear using a clip. The tag has a mounting flap at nearly a right angle to the display face. The clip is inserted through the rectangle hole in the top of the display face. The clip, which may be a metal tag, is installed in it's standard manner. The buttonless tag hangs in front of the ear. The mounting flap ensures the tag hangs down at an angle which enables the display face to be read at a distance. The tag has an emergency tear section. In the event the tag permanently catches on something, the tag will tear off at the emergency tear section, leaving a small portion of the tag and the metal tag clip in the animal's ear. Both the metal tag and the portion of the tag remaining can also be numbered as a back-up identification.
