ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cable locking device for joining one end of a metallic hauling cable having a core made up of a plurality of metal fibres. The device defines therein a first longitudinal housing having a through-hole for slidably moving in the housing, the end of the metallic cable. The circumferential walls of the hole snuggly fit the end of the cable. A tappered element pierces and penetrates the core of the metallic cable at its end to radially and outwardly press the fibres of the cable against the circumferential longitudinal walls as to enlarge the end of the cable and thereby frictionally lock the end of the metallic cable within the housing. A sling can be connected to the housing, in alignment with the metallic cable.
