An apparatus for retrieving a cable or pipe buried under water in bed material comprises a shank (2) having a first surface and a fluke member (5) having a second surface. When the apparatus is towed in a towing direction, the fluke member (5) and shank (2) become buried in the bed material to a predetermined depth suitable for retrieving the cable or pipe. The first and second surfaces are arranged such that under normal working conditions the interaction between the bed material and at least the first and second surfaces generate opposing forces in these surfaces causing the apparatus to be maintained at substantially the predetermined depth. The apparatus may also be adapted for burial of a cable or pipe by ploughing a furrow in the bed material into which the cable or pipe is supplied using guiding means.

L'invention concerne un appareil de recherche d'un câble ou d'un tuyau enfoui sous l'eau dans un matériau du lit comprenant une tige présentant une première surface et un élément patte présentant une seconde surface. Lorsque l'appareil est remorqué dans une direction de remorquage, l'élément patte et la tige sont noyés dans les matériaux du lit à une profondeur prédéterminée prévue pour la recherche du câble ou du tuyau. La première et la seconde surface sont disposées de sorte que dans des conditions de travail normales l'interaction entre les matériaux du lit et au moins la première et la seconde surface produisent des forces opposées dans lesdites surfaces forçant l'appareil à être maintenu à ladite profondeur prédéterminée. L'appareil peut être aussi adapté pour l'enfouissement d'un câble ou d'un tuyau par labourage d'un sillon dans les matériaux du lit dans lequel le câble ou le tuyau est placé par des moyens de guidage.
