The invention provides an accessory for a compound bow having a center section including an arrow support, upper and lower resilient power limbs extending upwardly and downwardly respectively from the center section, a tension compensating cam mechanism at the free end of each of the limbs, first and second tension cables extending between said cam mechanisms, and a drawstring extending between said cam mechanisms. The accessory involves a spreader that fits within an existing tension cable, dividing or separating it into a pair of cable strand portions that are generally parallel and are located symmetrically on each side of the vertical centerline of the bow. The use of the accessory means that the guide rod and slider of a conventional compound bow are no longer required as all forces imposed on and created by the bow during the launch of an arrow are symmetrical with respect to the vertical centerline. The accuracy of the archer is improved since he does no have to compensate for offset forces imposed by conventional tension cable arrangements.
