A cable tie (11) is used in conjunction with a cable tie installation tool (12) to bundle a plurality of objects, such as wires or cables. The cable tie includes a head (13) and a tail (15), the head (13) having a pair of outwardly projecting wings (31-1, 31-2). The tail (15) is capable of insertion through the head (13) so that the cable tie takes the shape of a loop with the tail (15) engaging and being locked in position by a pawl (26) inside the head (13), the tail (15) being incapable of removal once it is inserted in the head (13). The cable tie (11) installation tool (12) includes a housing (101) which is adapted to receive an individually loaded cable tie and which protects internal components of the tool (12). A jaw assembly (105), which includes a motor driven by a motor (153) into open, closed and overclosed positions, guides the tail (15) through the head (13) to form the cable tie (11) into a closed loop around the desired bundle.
