The invention relates to plenum rated data communication cables, in particular to a shielded, plenum rated data communication cable for transmitting high-frequency signals featuring a fluoropolymer insulation and metallic shielding, to an unshielded plenum rated data communication cable for transmitting high-frequency signals, to a shielded, plenum rated data communication cable for transmitting low-frequency signals and to an unshielded, plenum rated data communication cable for transmitting low-frequency signals. The fluoropolymer used as an insulating layer enables high-frequency signals to be transmitted with a low signal attenuation. In the case of the shielded, plenum rated data communication cable which is especially adapted for transmitting low-frequency signals, the insulation material used is an ethylenechlorotrifluoroethylene polymer (ECTFE). Where the cables are unshielded, a second jacket layer comprising a polyvinylidene fluorine (PVDF) material is used. PVDF has an effect on the signal attenuation similar to a metallic shield.
