A method of modulating differentiation or neoplastic transformation of cells is provided in which the cells are caused to increase or decrease cad-11 expression or function. Such method has application in affecting differentiation or neoplastic transformation of cells, preventing or terminating pregnancy by altering cad-11 function or expression in trophoblast cells, or for reducing the viability of carcinoma cells having a low to moderate metastatic potential. The use of agents which increase or decrease cad-11 expression or function is also provided, including such use for preparation of medicaments for modulating differentiation or neoplastic transformation of cells. A method for assessing the metastatic potential of carcinoma cells is also provided.
L'invention concerne un procédé de modulation de différenciation ou de transformation néoplasique de cellules consistant à faire en sorte que les cellules augmentent ou diminuent l'expression ou la fonction cad-11. Ce procédé trouve une application dans la différenciation ou la transformation néoplasique des cellules, dans la prévention ou le traitement de la grossesse par altération de la fonction ou expression cad-11 dans les cellules trophoblastes ou dans le réduction de la viabilité de cellules cancéreuses présentant un potentiel métastatique de faible à modéré. L'utilisation d'agents augmentant ou diminuant l'expression ou la fonction cad-11 et leur utilisation pour la préparation de médicaments permettant de moduler la différenciation ou la transformation néoplasique de cellules font l'objet de cette invention. L'invention concerne encore un procédé d'évaluation du potentiel métastatique de cellules cancéreuses.
