ABSTRACT Disclosed is a photoconductor of the cadmium sulfide/ cadmium carbonate type which contains cadmium oxide in the range of .05 to 1.5 mole per cent. The calcination of this photoconductor is performed at the relatively high temperature range of approximately 250 degrees C to 310 degrees C in an inert atmosphere or in air, with between 265 degrees C to 290 degrees C being preferred. The resultant photoconductor, which can be used in both toner transfer and charge transfer electrophotography, has a higher photographic speed, faster discharge of residual charge, and less degradation of electrophotographic properties, particularly charge acceptance, at high humidities.
