The present invention provides novel antiviral compounds, referred to as calanolides, related compounds, and their derivatives, which may be isolated from plants, or derived from compounds from plants, of the genus Calophyllum in accordance with the present inventive method. The compounds and their derivatives may be used alone or in combination with other antiviral agents in compositions, such as pharmaceutical compositions, to inhibit the growth or replication of a virus, such as a retrovirus, in particular a human immunodeficiency virus, specifically HIV-1 or HIV-2.
La présente invention concerne de nouveaux composés antiviraux désignés sous le nom de calanolides, des composés apparentés, et leurs dérivés, qui peuvent être isolés des plantes, ou dérivés de composés issus de plantes, de l'espèce Calophyllum, selon le procédé de la présente invention. Les composés et leurs dérivés peuvent être utilisés seuls ou en combinaison avec d'autres agents antiviraux se trouvant dans les compositions, telles que des compositions pharmaceutiques, afin d'inhiber le développement ou la réplication d'un virus, tel qu'un rétrovirus, notamment un virus de l'immunodéficience humaine, spécifiquement le VIH-1 ou VIH-2.
