A calcium and/or magnesium hydroxide having a water content of less than 50 % is characterized in that it has a specific surface area greater than 35 m<2>/g. A method for preparing said hydroxide comprises reacting CaO and/or MgO with an amount of water such that the resulting calcium and/or magnesium hydroxide has a water content of less than 50 %, in the presence of an amount of additive selected among glycols and/or amines. The method can be used in purifying acid gases in the building construction industry for the manufacture of mortars.
Hydroxyde de calcium et/ou de magnésium dont la teneur en humidité est inférieure à 50 %, caractérisé en ce qu'il pré- sente une surface spécifique supérieure à 35 m2/g. Procédé de préparation de cet hydroxyde dans lequel on fait réagir du CaO et/ou MgO avec une quantité d'eau telle que l'hydroxyde de calcium et/ou de magnésium obtenu, présente une teneur en humidité inférieure à 50 % et en présence d'une quantité d'un additif choisi parmi les glycols et/ou les amines. Utilisation dans le procédé d'épuration de gaz acides, dans l'industrie de la construction pour la fabrication des mortiers.
