A calibration load (24) for use in calibrating an electromagnetic sensor comprises a multiplicity of protruding elements (7) projecting from a surface, at least a proportion of said protruding elements having an axis that is offset. The projecting elements (7) are arranged with a degree of randomness such that said protruding elements can controllably absorb radiation received on the surface. The randomness suppresses Bragg reflections from the surface. The load may be used in calibrating a microwave radiometer.
L'invention porte sur une charge d'étalonnage (24), pour une utilisation dans l'étalonnage d'un capteur électromagnétique, qui comporte une multiplicité d'éléments en saillie (7) se projetant à partir d'une surface, au moins une partie desdits éléments en saillie ayant un axe qui est décalé. Les éléments en saillie (7) sont agencés avec un degré du caractère aléatoire de telle sorte que lesdits éléments en saillie peuvent absorber de façon commandée un rayonnement reçu sur la surface. Le caractère aléatoire supprime des réflexions de Bragg de la surface. La charge peut être utilisée dans l'étalonnage d'un radiomètre à micro-ondes.
