The invention provides a calibration tool for a vehicle monitoring device, the tool having a processor with a clock or access to a time signal and arranged for connection to and to receive and process signals from a vehicle on-board diagnostics unit (OBD), the processor having or connected to means for storing data relating to the vehicle and its engine and codes relating to signals from the available OBD outputs and inputs, the processor being programmed to calculate and store certain coefficients derived over the vehicle's operating range and to populate an array with the said coefficients so that the processor can look up the corresponding co-efficient from the array to calculate the desired value or output. The invention extends to a method of calibrating a calibration tool or a vehicle- monitoring device mounted in a vehicle provided with such a calibration tool. The method comprises the steps of configuring the calibration tool to receive data from vehicle sensors including those indicating vehicle road and engine speed data and temperature data, operating the vehicle, processing the data received during operation of the vehicle to calculate coefficients specific to the vehicle, and populating look-up tables that are accessible to the vehicle monitoring device with the calculated coefficients.
L'invention concerne un outil d'étalonnage pour un dispositif de surveillance de véhicule, l'outil ayant un processeur avec une horloge ou un accès à un signal temporel et agencé pour une connexion à et pour recevoir et traiter des signaux provenant d'une unité de diagnostic à bord d'un véhicule (OBD), le processeur ayant ou étant connecté à des moyens pour stocker des données apparentées au véhicule et à son moteur et des codes apparentés aux signaux provenant des sorties et entrées d'OBD disponibles, le processeur étant programmé pour calculer et stocker certains coefficients issus sur la plage de fonctionnement du véhicule et pour remplir un tableau avec lesdits coefficients, de telle sorte que le processeur peut consulter le coefficient correspondant à partir du tableau pour calculer la valeur ou sortie désirée. Le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à configurer l'outil d'étalonnage pour recevoir des données provenant de détecteurs de véhicule, comprenant ceux indiquant les données de route de véhicule et de vitesse de moteur et les données de température, actionner le véhicule, traiter les données reçues pendant le fonctionnement du véhicule pour calculer des coefficients spécifiques au véhicule, et remplir des tableaux à consulter qui sont accessibles au dispositif de surveillance de véhicule avec les coefficients calculés.
