CALL ALTERING DEVICE FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS TERMINALS Abstract of the Disclosure A vibrating signalling device is used in conjunction with a telecommunications terminal for alerting a user to receipt of an electrical call signal by the telecommunications terminal. A movable weight such as an armature is coupled to a receiver for the electrical call signal, and a pulsating force is generated by oscillating the movable weight electromechanically upon receipt of the electrical call signal, alerting the user to the electrical call signal apart from audible and visible signalling. The signalling device can be an automatically functioning component included in a portable terminal device which also can provide an optical signal and/or an acoustic signal, and a switch or connector coupling disables the optical and/or acoustic signal when the terminal communicates with a separate signalling device over a wireless signalling path. Where the signalling device is wired to the terminal, a connector coupling can disable audible/visible signalling when the vibrating device is plugged in. The vibration signal generated is preferably at a sub-audible frequency and can correspond to the rhythm of the call signal. The device alerts the user to the call in a manner which is not perceptible to other persons nearby.
