ABSTRACT A cam actuated electrical connector for low insertion force mating with a plurality of fixed male terminals, includes a first housing containing a plurality of spring contact female terminals, a second housing receiving the first housing therein and camming means for effecting relative movement between the housings. In a normal relaxed condition of the connector, the female terminals are in a closed position. Upon actuation of the connector for mating, the housings are moved relative to one another by the camming means to cause female terminals to be moved to an open position to receive the male terminals and subsequent release of the second housing causes the female terminals to engage the male terminals. The camming means comprises a pair of handles flexibly attached to the first housing and which can be squeezed to drive the first housing inwardly of the second housing.
