A camera dolly or pedestal (27) reduces unwanted sudden camera movement when the dolly wheels (104) roll over a bump or crack on the floor. The dolly wheels (104) have a rocker suspension (30) which can be used with a bogey wheel system (80) which offsets the dual wheel sets (104a, 104b) of the dolly (28). The dolly chassis may be advantageously split into two sections (202, 204) journalled together to achieve the benefit of both 3 point and 4 point suspensions. A column drive to achieve the benefit of both 3 point and 4 point suspensions. A column drive system (310) has a hydraulic actuator (306) to remotely raise the column assembly (300), and to lock the column assembly (300) into any selected position.
