A camera positioning system for rotating a video camera about a rotation axis. The system includes a camera platform (14) to which the camera is rotatably attached; a motor (18) mounted to a base (13) for driving the camera platform to effect rotation of the platform about the axis and relative to the base; a drive (20) for coupling the motor to the camera platform; an electrically driven capacitive sensor assembly (28) for generating electrical position signals for determining a rotational position of the camera platform relative to the base; and a feedback control circuit for using the position signals from the capacitive sensor assembly to control rotational positioning of the motor, resulting in rotating the camera to a desired camera position. The capacitive sensor has a conductive guard plate (34) which helps immunize the capacitive sensor assembly from noise and from ground potentials. The rotation axis can be horizontal or vertical with the camera rotated to effect pan or tilt respectively.
Système de positionnement de caméra destiné à faire tourner une caméra vidéo autour d'un axe de rotation. Ledit système comporte une plate-forme de caméra (14) à laquelle la caméra est fixée rotative; un moteur (18) monté sur un support (13) pour entraîner la plate-forme de caméra afin de la faire tourner autour de l'axe et par rapport au support; un entraînement (20) destiné à coupler le moteur à la plate-forme; un ensemble capteur capacitif entraîné électriquement (28) servant à générer des signaux de position électriques afin de déterminer une position angulaire de la plate-forme de caméra par rapport au support; et un circuit d'asservissement à rétroaction pour utiliser les signaux de position émis par l'ensemble capteur capacitif afin de commander le positionnement angulaire du moteur, ce qui permet de faire tourner la caméra jusqu'à une position souhaitée. Le capteur capacitif a une plaque de garde conductrice (34) qui aide à l'immuniser de la tension parasite et du potentiel de la masse. L'axe de rotation peut être horizontal ou vertical, la rotation de la caméra effectuant respectivement un panoramique horizontal ou vertical.
