A method and apparatus for seaming a can end to a can body and a can made thereby. The can end has a side wall forming an angle in the range of about 12° to 15°. A seaming chuck (42) is inserted into the can end adjacent its side wall. The seaming chuck (42) has upper and lower walls. The upper wall is essentially cylindrical or slightly negatively tapered. The lower wall is disposed at an angle very close to that of the can end side wall so that the upper and lower chuck side walls form an obtuse angle in the range of about 162° to 168°. A can seamed using such a chuck will have a segmented, kinked side wall comprising upper and lower substantially straight sections intersecting at a circumferentially extending crease and forming an obtuse angle.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour sertir une extrémité de boîte métallique au corps de ladite boîte et une boîte métallique ainsi réalisée. La paroi de ladite extrémité forme un angle de 12 DEG à 15 DEG environ. Un mandrin de sertissage (41) est inséré dans l'extrémité de la boîte adjacente à la paroi. Ledit mandrin (41) a une paroi inférieure et une paroi supérieure. Cette dernière est sensiblement cylindrique ou à conicité légèrement négative. La paroi inférieure est disposée selon un angle très proche de celui de la paroi latérale de l'extrémité de la boîte métallique de façon que les parois latérales inférieures et supérieures du mandrin forment un angle obtus de 162 DEG à 168 DEG environ. Une boîte sertie au moyen d'un tel mandrin aura une paroi latérale segmentée et coudée se composant de sections inférieure et supérieure sensiblement droites se coupant à un faux-pli s'étendant à la circonférence et formant un angle obtus.
