A cannula (10) for depositing an object in the body of a living organism comprises a cannula holder (14) with a first handle (16) and a sleeve (18) with a second handle (20). The sleeve surrounds the cannula holder (14) at least in regions, can be displaced axially with respect to it and has a mandrin (24) which extends into the cannula. The object can be deposited in the body by means of relative movement between the mandrin and the cannula (10) containing the object. To enable the cannula to be inserted and the object deposited using one hand only it is proposed that the sleeve be locked with the cannula holder (14) by at least one spreader element extending from the cannula holder or by a catch or lifting element (54) extending from the cannula holder or from the sleeve when pressure is exerted on the second handle (22) extending from the sleeve (18).
