Canoe carrying apparatus for distributing the weight of a canoe about the body of a person when carrying the canoe which includes a belt for fastening, in use, around the waist of the person and a pair of straps, each passing over a different shoulder of the person and having opposite ends fastened to the belt at the front and rear. A supporting arm arrangement is provided on either side of the belt each with a first composite arm pivotally attached to the belt and a second composite arm is pivotally attached to the upper portion of the first arm. An upper end of the second arm has a cradle portion for engaging with a cross bar of the canoe and capable of movement to lift the canoe above the shoulder of the person with each of the supporting arm arrangements at an obtuse angle to the vertical.
