ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an improved type of wear part or tooth for earth-working machines such as excavators, loaders and mechanical buckets. The wear part or tooth according to the invention is more specifi- cally an improved so-called cap tooth, i.e. a tooth of the type which is secured over an adapter protruding from the tool in question. Cap teeth are highly economical in terms of material consumption since they can be worn down until only very little material remains, when the tooth must be rejected. They have, however, previously had the disadvantage that they have usually fallen out of the adapters if they have been worn down so far that the portion of the tooth cap which covered the bottom of the adapter has been eliminated. By locating the support surface of the adapter facing towards the surface of the worked earth for the tooth in two planes located at different distances from the surface of the earth we have, however, now remedied this problem.
