ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides a capacitance-type switch in which it is practical to seal the switch against dust and fluid. The switch has an electrically integral capacitance spacing layer is provided over a plurality of switch zones, with one end of the capacitance spacer having a folded-over portion. By providing a second contact aligned with and spaced from a movable contact, but electrically connected to a conduct- ive portion of a capacitance spacing element, that element can be located other than directly adjacent the contacts, and switch- ing elements remotely spaced from one another can share a common capacitance spacing element. This structure provides for increased manufacturing flexibility and a reduction is the size of the switching matrix and detection circuitry. There results a greater signal-to-noise ratio and the sealed capacitance-type switch is protected against dust and vapors, for a longer life.
