ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A high speed closure sorter capable of producing an output of uniformly oriented closures from an input of a high speed flow of randomly oriented closures. A capacitive proximity sensor discriminates between the orientation of each closure without contacting it. An electric field is created between the sensor and the closures and in one orientation of the closures, a signal corresponding to that orientation is produced and in another orientation of the closures no signal is produced. The produced signal is amplified to operate an ejector which allows closures having one orientation to pass directly to an output chute but ejects closures having another orientation into a second output chute. One of the output chutes may return the closures to a hopper or may be curved to reorient the closures carried therein so that the outputs from both chutes are oriented in the same direction.
