M-6446 CAPACITIVE MEANS FOR MEASURING THE LEVEL OF A LIQUID ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A capacitive device for measuring the level of a liquid provides a container at least a portion of which includes dielectric material, an electrode disposed on an outer surface of the portion of the container, an electrical coupling from the electrode to an electrical signal source, a capacitive coupling from a detecting circuit to the electrode to allow a measurement of the amount of electrical signal received therethrough, and electrical shunting for signals through the liquid and away from the electrode when the liquid is in close proximity thereto, thereby allowing a measurement of the level of the liquid in the container by measurement of the amount of signal received through the capacitive coupling.
