ABSTRACT An improved motor control apparatus having an electric motor which is driven in one direction by an alternating current power source and in a return direction by a spring return wherein a holding or braking of the motor is accomplished by the application of a source of direct current power to magnetize the motor and hold it in a predetermined position after the removal of the alternating current power source. When the motor is to be returned to its initial position, the direct current power source is disconnected from the motor and the motor is de-magnetized or degaussed by applying an alternating current source to it so it is free to return to its initial position under the power of the return spring. The device for momentarily applying the alternating current power source to the motor to return it to its initial position is a capacitor circuit connected in parallel with the motor and with the direct current power source to be charged while the direct current power source is connected to the motor and to discharge through the motor when the direct current power source is disconnected from the motor.
