The invention is a static VAR compensator (SVC)(18) which provides optimized power factor correction in the presence of resonant line conditions and large amplitude harmonics. A gate drive signal is applied to the solid state devices (21) of the SVC (18) during only a minor fraction of the fundamental cycle to prevent damage to the solid state devices (21 ) and the capacitors (20) of the SVC (18), otherwise caused by resonant line conditions or large amplitude harmonics. This relatively short gate drive signal, in the presence of large amplitude harmonics, will force the solid state electronic components to turn-off prematurely. As a result, the capacitors (20) of the SVC (18) provide incomplete reactive power compensation. Feedback from a capacitor polarity circuit (31) is used to determine switched capacitor status at a specific instant in each cycle. A VAR correction controller (24), responsive to the feedback, executes a control scheme to account for incomplete reactive power compensation.

L'invention se rapporte à un survolteur-dévolteur statique (18) assurant une correction optimisé du facteur de puissance en cas d'effets de résonance en ligne et d'harmoniques de grande amplitude. Un signal de commande de grille est appliqué aux dispositifs à semi-conducteurs (21) du cycle fondamental pour éviter d'endommager les dispositifs à semi-conducteurs (21) et les condensateurs (20) du survolteur-dévolteur (18) à la suite des effets de résonance en ligne ou des harmoniques de grande amplitude. Ce signal de commande de grille relativement court, en présence d'harmoniques de grande amplitude, provoquera la retombée prématurée des composants électroniques transistorisés. En conséquence, les condensateurs (20) du survolteur-dévolteur (18) assurent une compensation incomplète de l'énergie réactive. Une rétroaction du circuit à condensateur de polarité (31) permet de déterminer l'état commuté du condensateur à un instant spécifique dans chaque cycle. Un survolteur-dévolteur (24), sensible à la contre-réaction, met en oeuvre un dispositif de commande pour prendre en compte la compensation incomplète de l'énergie réactive.
