Disclosed is a method for reducing the moisture content of a paper web in a paper- making process from in the range of 10 % to 32 % dry to the range of 33 % to 50 % dry wherein the embryonic web (14) is sup- ported on a knuckled through drier fabric and lightly pressed between the knuckled through drier fabric and a capillary membrane (12) of a capillary dewatering roll. The capillary membrane (12) has capillary pores therethrough which have a substantially straight through, non-tortuous path with a pore aspect ratio of from about 2 to about 20. A vacuum is drawn within the capillary dewatering roll which is not greater than the negative capillary suction pressure of the capillary pores.
Un procédé permet de réduire la teneur en humidité d'une bande de papier, lors de la fabrication de papier, de 10 à 32 % à 33 à 55 % de sécheresse. La bande embryonnaire (14) est supportée par un tissu de séchage à reliefs perméables et légèrement comprimée entre celui-ci et une membrane capillaire (12) de tambour d'essorage capillaire. Cette membrane capillaire (12) présente des pores capillaires qui la traversent de façon pratiquement directe et non sinueuse et présente un rapport dimensionnel de pore de 2 à 20 environ. A l'intérieur du tambour d'essorage capillaire, on crée une dépression ne dépassant pas la pression d'aspiration capillaire négative des pores capillaires.
