ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A capping device for a multi-ink jet head is disclosed. The capping device is provided with means for keeping the nozzles of the head isolated from each other whilst the head is capped. Separate ink suction channels are provided for each nozzle, and whilst these channels may merge at a point intermediate their length, shut off means are provided in the channels prior to their point of merger which are shut off the channels except during suction.
