ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An air valve for a pneumatic tire comprises an externally threaded valve body, an internally threaded valve capsule adapted to be mounted on the body, the capsule containing an air way pro- vided with packings to form a seal between the air way and the capsule, and between the air way and the valve body, the capsule being provided with an air inlet, and a valve mounted internally of the air inlet and constructed of a resilient plastic material adapted to seal the air inlet when pressed thereagainst. A spring positioned between the valve and an end wall inside the body for urging the valve into contact with the air inlet, the valve being provided with a rounded projection at its outer end whereby the valve may be mechanically urged away from the air inlet.
