ABSTRACT The present invention is directed to a tent, primarily designed to car top use: when erected, for sleepers and when folded down, as cartop carrier. The tent, comprising a rectangular support frame (4'x6'), fabricated from steal anglebar and a plywood floor laying on inwardly pointed horizontal flanges of angle bar for support- ing the tent and said support frame mounted on top of a pair of conventional cartop carrier bars. A water repellent canopy is provided and includes a base and upwardly extending walls joined together in rounded umbrella like shape and having an opening along one of the walls for entrance. The novel feature of this invention is the structure of the erecting system. The advantages of this feature, compared to the existing prior art, for example: as it is illustrated in the U.S. Patent No. 2,670,747 are: it is strong, no fragile parts to breakdown or bulky package to store when tent is not in use, it is simplified construction. All we have is 10 solid fibreglass, straight and flexible rods, about 5/16" in diameter., adapted to extend within the canopy inside and in an assembled position supporting the same during use;when not in use, the rods can be stored loosely under the sleeping bags on the floor. Secondly, in the erecting system, the disclike centre- support member is permanently attached to the canopy, inside, up in the centre, so it doesn't require extra handling. ABSTRACT - Continued.. It has radially extended holes within to take one end of the rod and pointing to the corner where the other end of the rod goes. There is also a removable centerpole, used only as temporary support, while erecting the tent.
