Anti-dementia medicaments comprising a carbamic acid derivatives or a phamaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof having anti-amnesic activity are provided. The carbainic acid derivatives are represented by the general formula (1) (see formula I) wherein Ar denotes an aromatic heterocyclic ring or its benzene-condensed ring, which may have at least one substituent, or a phenyl group which may have at least one substituent, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R2 denotes a lower alkyl group which may be substituted with a halogen atom, a phenyl group which may have at least one substituent, a naphthyl group, or a five- or six-membered heterocyclic ring and its benzene-condensed ring; X and Y, which may be the same or different, each denote a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom.
