A B S T R A C T Separating apparatus for effecting separation of gases (including vapors) from a stream of gases and suspended solid particles exiting from an elongated tubular member located at least in part within a disengagement chamber, the tubular member has an outlet section located at least partly within the disengagement chamber and having a downstream end with a lip portion located in the disengagement chamber. The separating apparatus has a shroud within the disengagement chamber, the shroud having at least one open end and at least an outer wall spaced from at least a portion of the outlet section. The outer wall is spaced outwardly from the outlet section a distance sufficient to define a collection flow passageway between the outlet section and a confronting surface of the shroud outer wall. The shroud also has at least one outlet port extending through a portion of the shroud wall and positioned adjacent or upstream of the position of the lip portion. The gases, under the influence of a negative pressure differential from the interior of the tubular member to the interior of the outlet port, exit the outlet section and are directed through the shroud and into the at least one outlet port, while the momentum of the solid particles prevents diversion of the particles into the shroud.
