ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A carbon black is provided which has a unique relationship between tint, surface area, and structure. The relationship is defined by T ? 50 + 1.057(CTAB)-0.002745(CTAB)2-0.2596(DBP)-0.201 (N2SA-CTAB). wherein T is tint measured per ASTM 3265-75; CTAB is surface area measured per Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 44, 1287 (1971); DBP is structure, measured per ASTM D-2414-70 method B; and N2SA is surface area, measured per ASTM D-3037-71T. The carbon black is usefully compounded into rubber to pro- vide low hysteresis rubber goods. The carbon black is produced by radial injection of feedstock into a mass of combustion gases immediately downstream of an abrupt expansion in the confining wall of a carbon black reactor.
