Fine powders of iron with less than 5% by weight graphite, copper, and an organic binder can be formed into shapes having a green density of up to about 7.4 g/cc and sintered in a hydrogen containing atmosphere to yield parts having minimum variations in physical properties. Incorporation of small quantities of copper, e.g. 1% or less by weight, negates variations in physical properties of sintered parts that were subjected to variations in the hydrogen content of the sintering atmosphere.

Fines poudres de fer avec moins de 5 % en poids de graphite, de cuivre et d'un liant organique, pouvant donner des formes possédant une masse spécifique initiale allant jusqu'à environ 7,4 g/cc, et frittées dans une atmosphère contenant de l'hydrogène pour former des composantes dont les propriétés physiques présentent des variations minimales. L'incorporation de petites quantités de cuivre, p. ex. 1 % ou moins en poids, annule les variations des propriétés physiques des parties frittées qui ont été soumises à des variations de la teneur en hydrogène de l'atmosphère de frittage.
