The present invention provides a process for the carbonylation of an alcohol, ether or ester to products comprising a carboxylic acid, the anhydride thereof or coproduction of the carboxylic acid and anhydride. More particularly, the present invention provides a process for the carbonylation of methanol to produce acetic acid by reacting methanol with carbon monoxide in a liquid reaction medium containing a catalyst comprising rhodium, iridium, iodide ion, and said reaction medium further comprising water, acetic acid, methyl iodide, and methyl acetate and subsequently recovering acetic acid from the resulting reaction product.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé de carbonylation d'un alcool, éther ou ester en produits comprenant un acide carboxylique, l'anhydride de cet acide ou la production conjointe de l'acide carboxylique et de son anhydride. Cette invention se rapporte plus particulièrement à un procédé de carbonylation de méthanol en vue de produire de l'acide acétique, par réaction du méthanol avec du monoxyde de carbone dans un milieu de réaction liquide contenant un catalyseur comprenant du rhodium, de l'iridium, et un ion iodure, ce milieu de réaction renfermant en outre de l'eau, de l'acide acétique, de l'iodure de méthyle et de l'acétate de méthyle, ce procédé consistant ensuite à récupérer l'acide acétique du produit de réaction résultant.
