ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved carburetor is provided for controlling the air/fuel mixture available to an internal combustion engine. The carburetor in- cludes a throttle body, a throttle valve carried by the throttle body, a throttle lever for controlling the movement of the throttle valve between a closed position and an open position, a linkage for operatively moving the throttle lever, and biasing means normally urging the throttle to the closed position. An improved device is provided for modulating the rate of opening of the throttle valve during opening movements of the linkage. The improved device comprises (a) a resiliently deformable member for re- ceiving and storing energy in response to opening movements of the linkage and for transmitting the energy to the throttle lever for opening the throttle valve; and (b) a pneumatic restrictor opposing the energy of the throttle lever and regulating the speed at which the throttle valve opens.
