A public phone or other device with a card reader checks if a card that has reached a value of zero is authorized to release an event. For this purpose it is checked if the card belongs to a given sub-group of cards and if the card's number falls within one of several numbers specified in the card reader. If both these conditions are true, the event is released. The event can e.g. consist of displaying a lottery prize that the user has won.
