A catheter localisation system for generating information appertaining to a three dimensional map of a part of a human or animal body from which three dimensional map a position of said catheter (1) may be determined. The catheter localisation system comprises a catheter (1) having a catheter head (6) which isarranged in use to be conveyed through the human or animal body to a desired localisation, a plurality of acoustic transducers (8) disposed about said catheter head (6) at predetermined localisations and a signal processing unit which operates to determine said three dimensional map of said part of a human or animal body consequent upon signals received by a plurality of acoustic transducers (8) acting as acoustic receivers, which acoustic signals were generated by at least one of said plurality of acoustic transducers acting as an acoustic source.
Système de localisation de cathéter générant de l'information destinée à une carte tridimensionnelle d'une partie d'un corps humain ou animal à partir de laquelle il est possible de déterminer la position du cathéter (1). Le système de localisation comprend : un cathéter (1) muni d'une tête (6) conçue pour être acheminée dans le corps d'une personne ou d'un animal jusqu'à une position désirée; une série de transducteurs (8) placés autour de la tête du cathéter (6) dans des endroits préétablis; et une unité de traitement de signal qui établit la carte tridimensionnelle du corps de la personne ou de l'animal en fonction de signaux provenant d'une série de transducteurs (8) agissant comme capteurs acoustiques.
