An apparatus and method for manufacturing a multi-layer web product. A long fiber stream is directed around a rotating carding cylinder. Two combing cylinders are disposed adjacent the carding cylinder to comb a first web of long fiber and a second web of long fiber, respectively, from the carding cylinder. A first conveyor receives the first web from the first combing cylinder and transports the first web toward a layering point. Similarly, a second conveyor receives the second web from the second combing cylinder and transports the second web toward the layering point. A short fiber deposition unit is disposed adjacent the second conveyor and deposits short fibers onto the second web. At the layering point, the first conveyor deposits the first web onto the second web, with the short fibers sandwiched therebetween, to form a layered web product.

Cette invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé servant à la fabrication d'un produit en bande multicouche. A cet effet, un faisceau de fibres est dirigé autour d'un cylindre de carde. Deux cylindres de peignage sont disposés adjacents aux cylindres de carde afin de peigner une première bande de fibres longues et une seconde bande de fibres longues, respectivement, provenant du cylindres de carde. Un premier transporteur reçoit la première bande provenant du premier cylindre de peignage et transporte cette première bande en direction d'un point de structuration en couches. De même, un second transporteur reçoit la seconde bande provenant du second cylindre de peignage et transporte cette seconde bande en direction du point de structuration en couches. Une unité de dépôt de fibres courtes est placée adjacente au second transporteur et dépose des fibres courtes sur la seconde bande. Au point de structuration en couches, le premier transporteur dépose la première bande sur la seconde bande, avec les fibres courtes prises en sandwich entre elles, afin de former un produit en bande structuré en couches.
