A truck cargo bed utility box blow molded of high density polyethylene which complements the styling of many truck bedliners. The utility box incorporates a mounting system for a central pneumatic spring which holds the lid of the box open. The mounting system consists of a bracket mounted to a wall forming part of the storage bin and a bracket on the bin lid. The lid bracket and the bin bracket extend to and engage with a hinge pin which joins the lid to thestorage bin. The brackets are constructed of sheet metal and are mechanically joined by the hinge pin. The loads imposed on the lid and bin wall by the air spring are distributed through the hinge pin. The bin bracket is also attached to a metal rim which surrounds the opening into the box to provide load distribution.The metal rim provides a distortion resistant structure to which locking hasps can reliably latch. By distributing the loads imposed on the plastic lid and plastic bin distortion of the plastic is prevented.

Cette invention concerne un coffre de rangement en polyéthylène haute densité moulé par soufflage qui s'harmonise avec le revêtement de la plate-forme de nombreux véhicules utilitaires. Ce coffre comprend un dispositif de montage pour ressort pneumatique centré servant à maintenir ouvert son couvercle. Le dispositif de montage se compose d'une ferrure fixée à une paroi du coffre et d'une autre fixée au couvercle. Les deux ferrures se prolongent jusqu'à un axe d'articulation qui réunit le couvercle au coffre. Les ferrures sont en tôle métallique et elles sont couplées par voie mécanique à l'axe d'articulation. Les charges imposées au couvercle et à la paroi du coffre par le ressort pneumatique sont réparties par l'axe d'articulation. La ferrure du coffre est également fixée à un rebord métallique entourant l'ouverture de celle-ci pour une meilleure répartition des charges. Le rebord métallique constitue une structure rigide offrant aux moraillons un point d'ancrage solide. La répartition des charges sollicitant le couvercle et les parois du coffre permet de prévenir la déformation du plastique.
