A carpet tile having a generally planar body where the body has traffic surface, a back side and a back coating matrix affixed to the back side. A portion of the back coating is formed from a bitumen matrix. The bitumen matrix comprises an amount of bitumen and a resin with a portion of the bitumen PEN grade bitumen. The matrix composition may be processed and applied to carpet at temperatures between about 115°C and 155°C and is typically applied at temperatures of about 125°C.
