A tufted carpet is provided having a primary backing with yarn comprised of at least 85% by weight of fibers selected from the group nylon fibers, wool fibers, and blends thereof. A polymer adhesive is applied to the back side of the tufted primary backing, which adhesive consists of at least 85% by weight of one or more ethylene copolymers each comprised of 50 to 95 weight % of ethylene, and 5-50 weight % of at least one comonomer selected from the group of esters and carboxylic acids. The polymer adhesive has a melt index greater than 150 and a tenacity at room temperature of at least 5 Mpa. A secondary backing is adhered to the back side of the primary backing. Preferred comonomers in the ethylene copolymer adhesive include vinyl acetate, butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, and acrylic acid. A process for making the tufted carpet of the invention is also provided.

L'invention concerne une moquette tuftée comprenant une étoffe support avec un fil constitué d'au moins 85 % en poids de fibres choisies dans le groupe constitué de fibres de nylon, de fibres de laine et de mélanges de fibres de nylon et de fibres de laine. Un adhésif polymère est appliqué sur l'envers de l'étoffe de support tuftée, lequel adhésif est constitué d'au moins 85 % en poids d'un ou de plusieurs copolymères d'éthylène constitués chacun de 50 à 95 % en poids d'éthylène et de 5-50 % en poids d'au moins un comonomère choisi dans le groupe constitué d'esters et d'acides carboxyliques. L'adhésif polymère présente un indice de fluidité à chaud supérieur à 150 et une ténacité à température ambiante d'au moins 5 Mpa. Une sous-couche tissée est collée sur l'envers de l'étoffe de support. Les comonomères préférés présents dans l'adhésif de copolymère d'éthylène contiennent de l'acétate de vinyle, de l'acrylate de butyle, de l'acrylate de méthyle, de l'acide méthacrylique et de l'acide acrylique. L'invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication de la moquette tuftée selon l'invention.
