A carrier bar is disclosed and is useful in an apparatus for printing images onto edible pieces such as confectionary. The carrier bar has a main body including an upper surface and a lower surface. At least one shaped recess is formed within the main body along the upper surface and includes a shallow end and a deep end. At least one vacuum hole is formed in the lower surface and communicates with the deep end of the shaped recess.
