The present invention provides a one-piece partition unit for a carrier for a plurality of primary containers such as beer bottles, said unit comprising a generally rectangular middle panel having a width of approximately two container diameters said middle panel having two edges parallel to each other and each affixed to respective ones of two outer panels which are upstanding from a same side of a plane including said middle panel and at an angle of approximately 90° thereto each of said panels having a length of at least two such diameters and is a multiple of such container diameter; at least one flap member affixed along a middle part of a longer edge thereof and at an angle of about 90° to said plane and also extending laterally across the middle panel and through an opening in each outer panel a distance of up to one bottle diameter, each such flap being parallel to any other such flaps and being spaced about one bottle diameter from any adjacent such flap or one other edge of said middle panel. The invention also provides a blank for making such partition unit and a carrier consisting of a carrier shell enclosing the partition. The partition unit can be made economically in one piece with little waste of board material; is easily inserted into a carrier shell and is convenient for the consumer to use in returning empty containers for refund.
