This invention relates to a carrying handle assembly for applying to bags having a flat top surface and more particularly for bags having a cross or block top. This handle assembly consists of two strips of material joined together along a central seam in which a marginal portion of each strip is bent t o project vertically and abut the marginal portion of the cooperating strip. A U-shaped handle is bonded between the abutting vertical projections. A method and apparatus for producing these handles is disclosed. This construction helps prevent the carrying handle from being torn out even when subjected to a heavy load.
